We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Legal Biller to join our accounts team to assist with billing for our Commercial & Technology department. The Legal Biller will be responsible for preparing, reviewing, and processing client bills for the Commercial & Technology team in accordance with the firms’ guidelines. This role requires strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced legal environment. |
Billing & Financial Administration:
- Take ownership of the billing processes within the aligned department(s). Manage the end-to-end billing process in line with the firm’s policies and HMRC/SRA rules, including:
- Producing billing guides.
- Narrative generation.
- WIP reports.
- Write offs.
- Transfers.
- Credit notes.
- Correspondence with the Revenue team.
- Handle internal billing queries professionally and diligently.
- Dealing with disbursements, including counsel's fees and foreign law firms which includes checking the amounts and ensuring they are recorded against the right files.
- Dealing with all payment queries from counsel's clerks and foreign law firms on the payment of invoices.
- Running weekly WIP reports for all partners and proactively working with the partners to bill the WIP.
- Liaising with compliance on file opening and helping to arrange for necessary AML documentation to be completed to ensure time can be closed and accurate bills raised.
- Take ownership of ebilling processes for relevant clients.
- Assist with preparing billing schedules for some clients.
- Work closely with the Finance team and all members of aligned groups to streamline and improve billing-related processes, including participation in any change management initiatives.
- Liaise proactively with EAs and LSTs within aligned groups for billing instructions and manage discussions to put specific billing arrangements in place.
- Lead efforts to transition billing responsibilities from Legal Secretaries and Executive Assistants to the Client Administration team.
Other Tasks:
- Liaise with Compliance and Finance teams as well as fee earners, to ensure the seamless execution of client administration billing tasks.

Experience Required:
- Prior junior legal billing experience, preferably in a legal or professional services environment
- Some experience of billing trade mark applications and associated disbursements
- Numeracy, accuracy, and a high level of attention to detail
- Working knowledge of accounting principles.
