The department

The Financial Services team is co headed by Jon Segal (specialist Alt Fi and Fintech lawyer) and Sona Ganatra (Contentious FS and Investigations lawyer).

We are a dynamic team of practitioners that deal with the whole life cycle of firms in the financial services sector: from assisting founders seeking investment, product development and advising on the application of PRA and FCA regulations, through to dealing with PRA/FCA Enforcement investigations and police/SFO investigations.

We act for a range of financial services clients including challenger and neo Banks, credit unions, insurers, investment firms, payment services and e money firms, and alternative finance platforms, as well as senior banking executives requiring specialist support.  Examples of our clients include:

The opportunity

We are looking for a 5-10 year PQE associate to join our Financial Services advisory practice as maternity cover for a year.

The prospective candidate will predominantly be working with one of our Partners, Peter Finch, on all consumer finance, e-money, payments and retail financial services matters the team gets involved in. This can involve advice on the regulatory perimeter, drafting customer facing terms and conditions, product structuring and a range of other regulatory queries. We are a very collaborative, friendly team who enjoy working with the full range of clients the team support (from early stage start up, scale ups and all the way to many of the UK’s unicorns).

Personal attributes and skills

The successful candidate will:

  • be 5 years to 10 years qualified working in private practice or in house.
  • Have had experience of advising payment and e-money firms, consumer credit firms; banks and/or fintechs.
  • have a good working knowledge of the FCA / PRA Handbook and of the Financial Services and Markets Act; the Regulated Activities Order; and/or Payment Services / E Money Regulations; and/or consumer finance regimes (e.g. the Consumer Credit Act / CONC or MCOB).
  • be a regulatory specialist who wants to develop their regulatory knowledge and work on complex advisory regulatory matters.
